A new modern Chinese restaurant has opened its doors in Williamsburg, serving dishes that showcase Northwestern Chinese and Cantonese with a deliciously vegetarian twist.
Dubbed Púsù, the restaurant is a genre-bending, space-age dining concept designed to evoke the harmonious coexistence of nature and the modern world.
Translating to “uncut gems” (璞玉) in Chinese, Púsù seeks to allure guests with raw and natural elements in an unpretentious space. A minimalist interior design and skylight in the back dining room make for an ambiance which is ethereal, intimate, and inviting.
Head Chef Owen Liu uses his 24 years worth of culinary experience to present innovative dishes influenced by diverse Chinese cuisines such as Northwestern, Hangzhou, and Cantonese.
The menu is comprised of a diverse display of cold dishes, small and large plates, soup, rice and noodles, and dim sum.
Highlights include Spinach Stacks with Sesame & Spicy Mustard Sauce, Beetroot & Fennel Salad, Eggplant Purée with Bao Cui (Chinese crackers), Tri-Color Cold Noodles, Tai Chi Soup, Sweet & Sour Beyond Pork, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Mapo Tofu Pumpkin Stew.
To drink, cocktails inspired by the bounty of China’s landscape are divided four distinct categories: Farmland, Forest, Garden, and Orchard.
Standouts from each category include the light and refreshing Celery (celery bitters, Gentian liqueur, Roku Gin), the salty yet succulent Sea fennel (sea fennel brine, Italicus, cardamom-infused Neptunia, Super verjuice), the floral Osmanthus (candied hibiscus, Hawthorn-infused Aperol, club soda, prosecco), and the rich Blueberry (cold brew coffee, Italicus, coffee liqueur, Haku vodka, blueberry, and Biscoff garnish).
An assortment of bar snacks will also be available to complement the craft drinks, such as Deep-Fried Mushrooms with Salt & Pepper, Chef Liu’s veggie-focused twist on truffle fries.
Púsù is located at 318 Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg. They’re open from Monday through Thursday, 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday through Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
