Back in August 2023 Púsù, a genre-bending dining concept designed to evoke the harmonious coexistence of nature and the modern world, opened its doors in Williamsburg. The restaurant started out serving dishes that showcase Northwestern Chinese and Cantonese with a deliciously vegetarian twist before fully switching over to a vegan menu, and it made some of the best noodles we’ve ever had the pleasure of trying–and they were made out of beets, at that!
Though sadly all good things must come to an end, and that rings true for Púsù as well, who’s set to close its doors for good this month on Friday, February 28th.
Translating to “uncut gems” (璞玉) in Chinese, Púsù allures guests with raw and natural elements in an unpretentious space. A minimalist interior design and skylight in the back dining room make for an ambiance which is ethereal, intimate, and inviting.
Head Chef Owen Liu uses his 24 years worth of culinary experience to present innovative dishes influenced by diverse Chinese cuisines such as Northwestern, Hangzhou, and Cantonese. The menu is comprised of a diverse display of cold dishes, small and large plates, soup, rice and noodles, and dim sum.
We checked the restaurant out shortly after they opened, and we’ve honestly been dreaming about it ever since. We had the Crispy Broccoli, Spinach Stacks, Vegetable Wontons in Chili Oil, Beetroot Noodles, and Beijing Style Shredded Pork, along with the Yin Yang Soup which is no longer on the menu. And if there weren’t only two of us–who were both satisfyingly stuffed by the end of the meal–we would have certainly ordered more!
To drink, Púsù serves cocktails inspired by the bounty of China’s landscape are divided four distinct categories: Farmland, Forest, Garden, and Orchard. And while all our focus was on the food, our drinks were delicious as well (and presented beautifully)!
Púsù announced their closing via an Instagram post, which read:
Running Púsù has been an incredible yet challenging journey. Despite our best efforts, we have faced many difficulties and must sadly announce that Púsù will close on February 28th…We are deeply grateful for your kindness, encouragement, and love for our food—it has meant everything to us. While the Púsù brand will continue under new ownership with a new concept, we are no longer involved in its future direction. Thank you for being part of our journey. We will miss you.
Thankfully, you still have eight days to enjoy the restaurant one last time–or discover for the first time what could have been a new favorite right before they close. We’ve certainly already made our reservation, so we’ll see you there! Make your reservation here.
