A vitrine de 1.000 pés quadrados é um mergulho profundo na osteologia médica que apresenta 150 crânios humanos reais e mais de 15 esqueletos completos. Os visitantes também encontrarão uma coleção patológica com casos de lepra, sífilis, hidrocefalia e outras doenças raras. Em outras palavras: isso não é algo que se vê todos os dias.
“Muitas pessoas podem passar a vida inteira sem nunca ter visto um osso humano de verdade, e queremos mudar isso oferecendo uma oportunidade para que todos se envolvam com esse importante assunto”, diz o diretor administrativo Jon Pichaya Ferry, que está por trás do JonsBones, também conhecido como o principal fornecedor de osteologia humana médica. “Nosso objetivo é promover a equidade e a inclusão, transformando um campo que tradicionalmente tem sido confinado a instituições acadêmicas e de elite.”
Essa atração do Brooklyn pode ser considerada um dos museus menos conhecidos de Nova York, mas certamente vale a pena dar uma olhada por seu talento especializado. É o único local nos cinco distritos a oferecer um vislumbre de restos de esqueletos reais, e uma das maiores exposições do país a fazer isso. Além disso, o objetivo é despertar a curiosidade em outras áreas relacionadas, como antropologia forense, medicina e quiropraxia, para citar algumas.
E boas notícias para os obcecados por ciência: há muita coisa em andamento, inclusive uma coleção ampliada, palestras e eventos, todos centrados em um tópico muito comum, mas muitas vezes incompreendido.
“Por meio dessa exposição, nosso objetivo é inspirar a curiosidade e despertar o interesse em áreas que muitas pessoas podem não ter encontrado anteriormente”, acrescenta Jon. “Esperamos que os visitantes saiam com uma apreciação mais profunda do sistema esquelético e uma melhor compreensão do que nos torna humanos.”
