Pride Month is right around the corner, and New York City is getting ready to celebrate. The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine—one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world—is bringing back its annual Iconic Pride programming.
Throughout June 2026, the Cathedral is offering an engaging lineup of spiritual services and community celebrations. The best part? Most events are completely free with a reservation.
The Very Reverend Winnie Varghese, XII Dean of the Cathedral, shared that the programming is designed to create spaces filled with joy and camaraderie. Whether you are looking for spiritual comfort or just want to gather with the community, their doors are wide open.
Kick off the season at Pride Eve
The celebrations actually start a day early this year on Saturday, May 30. Hosted by the incredible Greedy Peasant, Pride Eve is back with expanded offerings.
The evening kicks off with a 6 p.m. cocktail hour where you can tour the Cathedral, enjoy craft stations, and enter a raffle.
After two consecutive sold-out years, the Greedy Peasant will hit the stage for a 45-minute performance. The night ends with the breathtaking illumination of the Cathedral in rainbow lights.
You are highly encouraged to dress up in monochromatic, fanciful outfits. Think red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, or pink (tassels are also implied!).

Tickets for this specific event range from $45 to $100, and all proceeds help keep the rest of the Iconic Pride events free for everyone.
Relax at the Pride Family Picnic
Looking for a daytime celebration? Head over on Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Cathedral Gardens will host a massive Pride Family Picnic.
You can bring your own food, play yard games, and relax in the beautiful outdoor space.
The Queer Big Apple Corps Marching Band will perform at noon. Afterward, you can get hands-on with a musical instrument petting zoo. Just make sure to reserve your free tickets online beforehand.

Enjoy special services and celebrations
The Cathedral will also host a Pride Evensong on Sunday, June 21 at 4 p.m. This special service features LGBTQIA+ composers and a performance by the Cathedral Community Choir.
No tickets are necessary for this welcoming event, and you are invited to sing along or just listen.
Finally, you can wrap up the programming on Wednesday, July 1 at 6:30 p.m. with a Celebration of Pauli Murray.
Held in collaboration with the American LGBTQ+ Museum, this free, ticketed discussion will feature notable scholars and theologians exploring Murray’s incredible legacy on their Feast Day.
