Step aside New York-style street dog, the Chicago dog is making its way up east! Chicago staple, Portillo’s, known as an Illinois icon for fast-casual Chicago street food, is bringing Hot Dog High Tea to NYC this April for one night only.
Portillo’s has teamed up with Jameson Black Barrel and Chain, an LA-based dining experience that reimagines chain restaurant classics as gourmet, to make it all happen.
The Chicago institution was founded as a humble hot dog stand, called “The Dog House,” in Villa Park, Illinois by Dick Portillo in 1963. It wasn’t until 1967 that the stand became a brick-and-mortar location renamed as Portillo’s. From the 70s through the 90s, locations began popping up all over the Chicagoland area. By 2006, Portillo’s expanded outside of Illinois with a California location. Today, it remains a Chicago favorite, aligned with nostalgic Americana, era-themed ambiences and the best damn Chicago dog!
New Yorkers will have one night to experience this high tea like never before, swapping clotted cream for Portillo’s cult-favorite chocolate cake and English tea sandwiches for Italian beef & truffle.
It wouldn’t be an authentic Portillo’s experience without all-time classics like their chicken chopped salad and crinkle fries. To elevate these timeless favorites, customers can look forward to a gourmet twists as the crinkle fry will be reimagined as a Pizzelle sandwich filled with a sweet & savory tomato jam, while the chopped salad will creatively be incorporated in a BBQ chicken sandwich.
The full Hot Dog High Tea menu will include:

- Italian Beef & Truffle
- BBQ Chicken Tea Sandwich

The entire Hot Dog High Tea experience will last for 30 minutes, before guests will be invited to sip on Black Barrel whiskey, with fun cocktails like a Honey Crisp Apple Old Fashioned and Black Barrel Julep.
