The beloved Zum Schneider Bavarian bierhaus and German restaurant is being kicked out of its home in Alphabet City this February.
Some of you may be familiar with Zum Schneider because you’ve attended their epic annual Oktoberfest party, and others may frequent the cash-only beer house in Alphabet City year-round. But now, after 20 years on Avenue C and 7th Street, the last days for this establishment are nearly here.
According to their announcement, it is not by choice that Zum Schneider is closing but rather by force from their landlord, who “have no intention to renew the lease.” The team goes on to say that Zum Schneider has been told they have until February 29th to leave the current space.
Until Sunday, February 2, customers can still visit for food and drinks as usual, but after that the kitchen will close and the bierhaus will operate as a bar for the remainder of its time on Avenue C. That said, the Zum Schneider team will still have their annual Karneval party kick off on Thursday, February 20. And according to their closing announcement, this six day party “will also double as [their] closing party.”
While there are currently no definitive plans of a future home for Zum Schneider, the owners mention that they will begin looking for a new location in Manhattan during the Spring.
Zum Schneider’s very last day open will be Tuesday, February 25.
