Broadway goers always have to snap a photo with their Playbill when they attend a show, and now starting April 7, you’ll be able to do that with a life-sized version!
A gigantic Broadway Playbill installation has arrived in Times Square, called the “Broadway Grand Gallery,” put on by Playbill.com and the Times Square Alliance. The Playbills are 10 feet tall, six feet wide, and three feet deep and showcase one show on each side, totaling 21 shows featured.
The shows represented in the 11 Playbills include: Aladdin, The Book of Mormon, Come From Away, Company, Dear Evan Hansen, Funny Girl, Hadestown, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Jersey Boys, The Lion King, The Little Prince, Little Shop of Horrors, MJ The Musical, Moulin Rouge! The Musical!, Mr. Saturday Night, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Phantom of the Opera, The Play That Goes Wrong, Plaza Suite, Six: The Musical, and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.
The “monoliths” are designed by each show in turn and will include information, photos, and a QR code linking to its ticketing page. A central billboard will also include a map showcasing all of the Broadway theatres in the neighborhood.
On opening day — today, April 7 — there were also live performances hosted by Donnie Kehr at the Playbill Sing for Hope Piano and featuring Broadway stars Jessica Vosk and Alex Newell.
Find them now in Times Square on Broadway between 47th and 48th Streets. They will be on display through June 15, 2022.
