If you were swiping your card at Trader Joe’s a few years ago, you might want to pay attention.
The grocery chain is currently offering payouts as part of a $7.4 million class-action settlement.
A 2019 lawsuit alleged that the company violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA). Basically, some stores printed receipts showing too many debit or credit card digits.
By printing the first six and last four digits of a card, the suit claimed the chain increased the risk of identity theft for its shoppers.
While Trader Joe’s denies any wrongdoing and notes that no actual identity theft has been reported, they agreed to settle to avoid a lengthy legal battle.
Now, they are passing those settlement funds back to the customers.
Here is exactly how to see if you qualify for a piece of the pie.
Who is eligible for the payout?
You are officially entitled to a share of the settlement if you used a credit or debit card at Trader Joe’s between March 5, 2019, and July 19, 2019, and received a receipt displaying the first six and last four digits of your card number.

How much money will you get?
The exact amount depends on how many people actually file a claim and the remaining funds after legal fees. However, the estimated payout is currently $102.45 per person. That is certainly enough to cover a massive haul of Mandarin Orange Chicken and Unexpected Cheddar!
How do you file a claim?
If you received an email or a postcard in the mail about the settlement, you are already confirmed as a class member. You can use the provided Class ID number to easily file online.
If you didn’t get a notice but know you shopped there during the timeframe, you can still submit a claim on the settlement website.
You will just need to enter the first six and last four digits of the card you used, along with the purchase date.
You need to act fast, though. All claims must be submitted by June 6, 2026 (or June 9 if you are opting out).
If you do absolutely nothing, you forfeit your right to the payout and give up your right to sue the company over this issue in the future.
Payments will be distributed after the court grants final approval at a fairness hearing scheduled for August 10, 2026.
