Paul Rudd handed out cookies, and Patti Smith brought out her vocal talents to help encourage and inspire NYC voters.
A video just surfaced of an impromptu concert by rock legend Patti Smith singing her 1988 song “People Have the Power,” along with her longtime musical partner Lenny Kaye on guitar.
The heartwarming performance was shared by Joy to the Polls, a non-partisan movement to bring joy to the polls and make voting a celebration.
The lyrics read:
The power to dream to rule
To wrestle the world from fools
It’ s decreed the people rule
It’ s decreed the people rule
I believe everything we dream
Can come to pass through our union
We can turn the world around
We can turn the earth’ s revolution
We have the power
People have the power
Though of course Election Day is today, the video appears to be from a few days ago, when Early Voting was still going on. Still offers some inspiration for today though!
