Take a quick day-trip to Taiwan this weekend at the Passport to Taiwan street festival.
Passport to Taiwan is an annual festival located in Union Square that is not only the largest Asian American event in New York City, but also the most attended Taiwanese event in the country. This year the event will take place on Sunday, May 26, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. featuring various cultural performances and plenty of Taiwanese delicacies like dan bing (egg pancakes), wai gui (savory rice pudding), gua bao (Taiwanese pork buns), bao bing (shaved ice dessert), and boba tea among countless others.
In addition to all of the tasty foods you’ll enjoy, the street festival will also have an array of performances by up-and-coming local artists and a dance piece choreographed by Taiwan’s Da Guan Dance Theater.
To make the experience even sweeter this year, Passport to Taiwan will be offering tote bags filled with treats and goodies that will also give attendees access to skip the lines at each food stall. Think of the bag as your VIP pass! There are two to choose from: Moon Cake Goody Bag (which comes with a name brand Moon Cake from Taichung, Taiwan, a festival shirt, bubble tea, three lottery tickets for a potential trip to Taipei, and a postcard), and the Rice Dumpling Goody Bag (which comes with rice dumping, a festival shirt, bubble tea, three lottery tickets for the chance to get a trip to Taipei, and a postcard).
