Word on the street is that Gowanus is on track to become a mini Copenhagen, and if you’re looking to get a taste of Danish living without selling your soul then boy do we have good news for you: a brand new affordable housing lottery has just opened in NYC, and the building is located at the crossroads of two of Brooklyn’s most sought-after neighborhoods, Gowanus and Park Slope!
Dubbed Longview, the building is located at 380 4th Avenue. The latest housing gem has 50 affordable units available ranging from one to two-bedrooms, and New Yorkers making an income between $35,589 and $150,930 are eligible.
The building overlooks the tranquil treelined streets of historic Park Slope and combines Park Slope’s classic Brownstone living with Gowanus’ avant-garde design. Residents will have direct access to Manhattan and Prospect Park as well as all the fabulous things to do in both neighborhoods (check out our Park Slope guide). The pet-friendly building offers many daily conveniences through an amazing array of amenities, including but not limited to:
- Garages
- Bike storage lockers
- Electric car changing stations
- Gymnasium
- Media Room
- Children’s Playroom
- Package lockers
- Rooftop terrace
Of the 50 available units, 35 are one bedrooms starting at $874 and 15 are two bedrooms starting at $1,031. Considering less than 5% of rents are affordable for NYC residents making the city’s average salary and rents are rising 7x faster than wages in NYC, you’ll want to think twice about passing this up.
Interested residents have until April 28th, 2025 to apply to the Park Slope/Gowanus affordable housing lottery. The lottery doesn’t require deposits or application fees and, in addition to rent, selected tenants will be responsible for electricity including stove and heating. 20% of the building’s units are preferred to go to Brooklyn Community Board 6 residents, 5% of the units are preferred for NYC employees, while 2% is for vision/hearing and 5% for mobility.
