We hope you’re hungry–a delicious new Italian restaurant with Mediterranean overtones, Osteria Accademia, officially opened in the Upper West Side Wednesday, October 5th!
From restaurateur Huseyin Ozer and partner Murat Akinci, the duo conceived the restaurant with the Upper West Side residents in mind, wanting to create an environment that makes them feel like they are in an UWS brownstone dining room.
The restaurant’s goal is to give the neighborhood a cozy spot where it’s easy to lose track of time over fine food, good wine, and intellectual conversation, a feat that seems extraordinarily possible once giving the menu a once-over.
Each dish on the menu is composed of fresh, house-made pasta and imported Italian ingredients, each representing a different region of Italy. The antipasti menu offers dishes like Vitello Tonnato, a delicacy of cold, thinly sliced veal topped with dollops of tuna sauce dressed with capers and Polpettine, house-made mini meatballs that are a mixture of Angus beef and veal served in a light tomato sauce with crostini ricotta.
Antipastis open to the pasta course, featuring fresh, homemade pasta, before main courses like Braised Short Ribs, short ribs braised in red wine for four hours and served atop mashed potatoes made with demi-glace and pecorino, and a Lamb Burger, topped with goat cheese and caramelized onions are offered.
And, like the pasta dishes, each dessert is also made in-house and include tasty treats such as zeppoles, cannolis, gelato, and sorbet.
A selection of wines are available to pair with your dish, and include ten white wines, ten red wines, and three sparkling wines available to order by the bottle or by the glass, all from the best wine producing regions in Italy. An expertly curated list of Italian craft beers will also be offered.
The name Osteria Accademia is a nod to the universities, schools, and academies that the Upper West Side is known for, and, set in a cozy space lined with bookshelves interspersed with wine bottles, it seems as if their goal of having their guests lose track of time while dining here will be exceptionally easy to achieve.
