Making the rounds in the most congested city in the world is not without its challenges. This week, some OMNY users noticed that they have received multiple charges for one ride on NYC buses and subways.
According to an active Reddit thread, some straphangers claim they were charged upwards of 10 or 12 times for one ride and the issue was left unresolved. Others said their banks have wiped out extra charges.
If you’re noticing more transactions than usual on your bank statement — or perhaps delayed OMNY charges — we’ll tell you everything you need to know to get things squared away.
OMNY trouble: what to do if you’ve experienced multiple charges
As of Thursday, June 12th at 9:20am, the MTA issued a statement on its site that reads: “Visa confirmed an issue with its cards impacting customers who used tap and go to pay for transit on June 10. Visa resolved this issue the same day. Rest assured you will not be overcharged.”
Should you still be wary of the issue, you can consider contacting OMNY customer service at 877-789-6669, a line that is available seven days per week from 6am to 8pm. (TTY users should call 716-688-0108.)
Additionally, you can log into your OMNY account where you can see your trips and charges, manage your travel cards, and more.

There is also a contact page where you can report your issues, however, it is strongly recommended that you do not share personal information such as bank card numbers.
Keep in mind that Reddit users said that it typically takes three to five business days for bank statements to sort out the issue. Should any news develop on this situation, we’ll be sure to keep you informed.
While yes, there are still kinks to fix, the MetroCard will eventually phase out by the end of the year, so New Yorkers are going to have to get used to a new norm. If you want to prepare for the winter transition ahead of time, have a look at our guide to getting an OMNY card.
