Athletes weren’t the only ones who made it to Paris for the 2024 Summer Olympics! Gunner and Davie, two dogs from the NYPD’s Counterterrorism Division, have set paw on French soil to add extra security, in conjunction with the French National Police.
New York’s K-9 Division is comprised of active German Shepards and passive Labradors to help conduct facility searches. “They go to work by actively seeking out sources of explosive trace,” said NYPD Deputy Chief Jason Huerta of the Counterterrorism Division.
According to NBC New York, the French requested the NYPD dogs and are therefore paying for their service.
“Protecting the Olympic Games in Paris is an international effort,” shared Rebecca Weiner, Deputy Commissioner of the NYPDCT.
Apparently the dogs and their human partners will be on the premises for around two weeks patrolling the various Olympic venues.
