Imagine lacing up your sneakers and starting a race at the exact same second as thousands of people in Tokyo, Paris, and Cape Town.
That is the reality of the Wings for Life World Run. Returning for its 13th edition on May 10, 2026, this is not your typical morning 5K.
It is a massive, worldwide movement where the finish line actually chases you.

A global race for a groundbreaking cause
The true heart of this event is its mission: 100% of all entry fees and donations go directly to spinal cord research to help find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
The scale of this run is completely unprecedented. Last year, a record-breaking 310,719 participants from 191 nationalities took part.
To date, the global community has raised an incredible €60.53 million. Whether you are an elite athlete, a fun runner, a total beginner, or a wheelchair participant, absolutely everyone is invited to roll, walk, or run together.

How the infamous “Catcher Car” works
In this race, there is no physical finish line. Instead, you are running to stay ahead of the Virtual Catcher Car.
- The start: Everyone worldwide sets off together at 11:00 UTC (7:00 AM local time in NYC).
- The pursuit: Thirty minutes after the start, the Catcher Car begins its chase in the app at 14 km/h.
- The pace: It steadily increases its speed over time to catch up to the runners.
- The finish: Your race officially ends the exact moment the virtual car catches you, meaning everyone finishes at their own unique distance.
NYC is officially sold out, but you can still run anywhere
New Yorkers clearly love a challenge, and the official NYC Meatpacking District meetup is already sold out for 2026.
However, that does not mean you have to miss out on the action. Because the race is tracked digitally, you can participate from absolutely anywhere.
All you have to do is download the Wings for Life World Run App and run solo wherever you happen to be in the city—whether that is a loop around Central Park or a jog down your own neighborhood block.

Join the community run in nearby Hoboken
If you are craving that infectious group energy but missed the NYC sign-up, there is an official App Run Event just across the river.

You can still snag a spot at the Hoboken, New Jersey run. Participants will meet up at Pier A Park on Sunday, May 10 at 7:00 AM sharp.
The scenic, fully accessible route heads north along Sinatra Drive, featuring open river views and the Manhattan skyline as your backdrop.
With over 500 events happening worldwide, registration spots are being snapped up incredibly fast. Grab your phone, download the app, and get ready to run for those who can’t.
