The weekend is officially here, and if you’re planning out what you’ll be getting into — you might want to alott extra time to it.
The MTA is rolling out a hefty list of subway and rail service changes starting tonight, April 10, through early Monday morning, April 13.
Track replacement and structural maintenance are the main culprits this weekend, throwing a wrench into several major lines across the boroughs.
Since navigating weekend transit is practically a local sport, we’ve broken down exactly what to expect to help you avoid getting stranded underground.
Traveling to JFK Airport?
Getting to the airport is stressful enough without surprise train reroutes. Especially with all of the TSA stuff happening too.
J trains are completely suspended to the Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport station this weekend.
You will need to take the A train to Howard Beach-JFK Airport or hop on the E train to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport to catch your flight.
Brooklyn and Manhattan disruptions
Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn are seeing some of the heaviest adjustments this weekend due to track replacement and electrical work.
- 4 and 5 Trains: The 4 train is not running between Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Crown Hts-Utica Av or New Lots Av. The 5 train is suspended between Grand Central-42 St and Bowling Green.
- F and M Trains: F trains are completely suspended in Brooklyn. Brooklyn-bound F trains are detouring heavily, running from Jamaica-179 St to W 4 St-Wash Sq, and then jumping on the A line to Euclid Av. M trains are stepping up to replace F service to and from Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
- Q Train: Q trains are not running between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Free shuttle buses will be running local and nonstop routes to help bridge the gap.
- N, Q, and R Trains: Downtown trains will run express from 34 St-Herald Sq all the way to Canal St.
Queens reroutes
Queens riders have a few track maintenance headaches to look out for, especially out by the Rockaways.
- A Train: Trains are not running between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Av. The Rockaway Park Shuttle is also entirely suspended. Free shuttle buses will run between Beach 67 St and Beach 90 St.
- J Train: Service is paused between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St. Free shuttle buses will cover the stops between 121 St and Crescent St.
- N Train: Astoria-bound trains are running nonstop from Queensboro Plaza directly to Astoria Blvd.
The Bronx service updates
Structural work is causing a few bypassed stations in The Bronx, so plan for a slight detour if you rely on the 6 or D lines.
- 6 Train: Manhattan-bound trains are running express from Hunts Point Av straight to 3 Av-138 St.
- D Train: Manhattan-bound trains will skip the 182-183 Sts station entirely.
Long Island Rail Road Adjustments
The City Terminal Zone is undergoing accessibility work this weekend, impacting eastbound travelers.
Starting Saturday night at 10 pm, eastbound trains will not stop at Forest Hills or Kew Gardens.
Eastbound trains heading toward Jamaica will also skip Woodside.
You can use your LIRR ticket to enter the subway at no extra cost at nearby stations like 34 St-Penn Station and Grand Central-42 St to navigate around the bypassed stops.
