2026 is now in full swing and that means that extended winter break is over, and the second half of the NYC school year is underway.
If you’re a parent and you haven’t taken a look at the NYC DOE 2025-26 calendar in a while, we’re here to refresh you on what days you can expect public schools in NYC to be closed this spring.
The remaining part of the academic year will see students have two week-long breaks in mid-winter and spring, as well as a handful of other holidays, plus of course end-of-year Regents exams.
Here’s a quick roundup of the dates— so you can plan weekends, babysitters, and escapes with zero surprises.

🗓️ Remaining NYC School Days Off (Spring 2026)
These are the major dates still on the calendar for NYC public school students:
January 2026
- January 5 — Classes resume after winter recess
- January 19 — Schools closed for Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- January 20 – January 25 — Regents exams (most kids still go to school, high schoolers have adjusted schedules)
- January 26 — Professional Development Day; no classes for students attending high schools and 6-12 schools, all other students attend school
February 2026
- February 16 – 20 — Schools closed for mid-winter recess
March 2026
- March 5 — Afternoon and Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K Centers; students in these schools dismissed three hours early
- March 12 – Afternoon and Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for middle schools and D75 schools; students in these schools dismissed three hours early
- March 18 — Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for high schools, K–12, and 6–12 schools
- March 19 — Afternoon Parent-Teacher Conferences for high schools, K–12, and 6–12 schools; students in these schools dismissed three hours early
- March 20 — Schools closed for Eid al-Fitr
April 2026
- April 2 – 10 — Schools closed for spring recess
May 2026
- May 7 — Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K Centers
- May 14 — Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for middle schools and D75 schools
- May 21 — Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for high schools, K–12, and 6–12 schools
- May 25 — Schools closed for Memorial Day
- May 27 — Schools closed for Eid al-Adha
June 2026
- June 4 — Schools closed for Anniversary Day/Chancellor’s Conference Day for staff development; students do not attend
- June 9 – 10; 17 – 25 – Regents exam administration (no exams will be held on June 19)
- June 19 — Schools closed for Juneteenth
- June 26 — Last day of classes
