To celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, an enormous fleet of international tall ships (the world’s largest flotilla to be exact) is sailing right into our harbor this July for the highly anticipated Sail4th 250 event.
As the nation’s first capital, NYC provides the perfect historic backdrop for the largest tall ship gathering since the legendary 1976 Bicentennial.
It’s so big it’s even being televised by NBC via an exclusive 4th of July special broadcast!
Here’s what to know about the event and what you can expect.
What is Sail 4th 250 and what are the key dates & times?
Organized by a dedicated maritime nonprofit, this epic celebration brings together over 60 majestic tall ships from more than 20 different nations.
The festivities span a whole week of nautical magic, and here is exactly when you need to be by the water to catch the action.
- July 3 (1 pm to 3 pm): The gorgeous Parade of Sail featuring smaller Class B ships glides down the East River.
- July 4 (9:30 am to 2 pm): The main event! Watch more than 30 towering Class A ships follow the official Sail4th 250 parade route up the Hudson River, stretching from the Verrazzano Bridge all the way to the George Washington Bridge.
- July 5 through July 8 (10 am to 6 pm): Free public boarding hours begin! You can step aboard these incredible international ships.
- July 9 (10 am): Everything wraps up with the thrilling Five Sisters Cup tall ship race, sending the fleet off from New York to Boston.
