The NYC Poetry Festival is the Best Way to Spend Your Weekend

This weekend, July 30th and 31st (11 am to 5 pm), Governors Island’s Colonel’s Row hosts the 6th Annual New York City Poetry Festival. This free two-day festival, organised by The Poetry Society of New York (“The Poetry Brothel“ and “The Typewriter Project”) brings together over 75 poetry organizations and 250 poets on its three main stages to celebrate New York City’s vibrant poetry community.

The festival isn’t just for NYC’s poetry elite, there is something for everyone. If you’re looking for shopping you’ll find the Vendor’s Village where local booksellers, artists and craft makers will be selling their wares. Foodies will find healthy and delicious food options by some of the cities finest food trucks. Those in search of refreshment will discover a beer garden sponsored by Brooklyn Brewery.

If you do write poetry the Ring of Daisies open mic will give you the opportunity to showcase your work and younger poets can check out “The Children’s Festival” sponsored by Writopia Lab.

If your desire is to party with NYC’s poetry elite, get yourself a membership to The Poetry Society of New York so you can hang out in the VIP tent and sip free cocktails all day with the festival headliners, sponsors, and members.
