When the colossal, hyper-realistic pigeon sculpture known as Dinosaur touched down on the High Line in October 2024, New Yorkers weren’t quite sure whether to bow down or run for cover. But in true NYC fashion, we didn’t just accept our new avian overlord—we obsessed over her.
From inspiring the city’s first-ever pigeon impersonation pageant to sparking a viral petition to keep her perched in Chelsea forever, Dinosaur has become more than just art; she’s a local celebrity.
Sadly, even the loftiest birds must eventually move on. The sculpture is scheduled to depart in early April to make way for a 27-foot-tall sandstone Buddha statue, but she isn’t leaving without one last “coo.”

The Ultimate Send-Off: “Farewell, Dinosaur“
On Saturday, March 21, the High Line is hosting a pigeon-themed closing bash to celebrate artist Iván Argote’s masterpiece.
From 12 pm to 4 pm, New Yorkers are invited to gather beneath the Spur for a day of high-energy chaos and bird-themed brilliance. The party lineup includes:
- A Live DJ Set: Tommy Sparks will be spinning tracks to keep the vibes high
- Pigeon Bingo & Trivia: Hosted by Miriam Abrahams—the actual winner of the 2025 Pigeon Impersonation Pageant (so you know the energy will be elite)
- Artist Meet-and-Greet: Artist Iván Argote will be on-site to sign limited-edition posters at a High Line Shop pop-up
- Family workshops and activities: located throughout the Spur
Visitors are even encouraged to dress up in their best pigeon-core or bird-inspired fits for a professional photo beneath the sculpture.

How To Get An Up-Close Experience With The Sculpture
If you want to say a truly intimate goodbye, there’s a golden ticket opportunity.
Those who register on the High Line’s website by Monday, March 16 will be entered for a chance to win an exclusive, up-close experience with the sculpture during the final half-hour of the event (3:30–4 pm).
Winners will be notified on Tuesday, March 17, and you’ll have 48 hours to claim your spot before it goes to the next bird in line.

Considering how quickly this giant pigeon became a viral NYC icon, this is bound to be the most New York goodbye imaginable. Don’t miss your chance to bid her a final adieu before she flies away for good!
