If you’re bouncing between Juneteenth events in Midtown, Melba’s Restaurant has opened a new outpost in the Grand Central Terminal Dining Concourse, bringing Chef Melba Wilson’s Harlem comfort-food classics like Chicken & Eggnog Waffles and Low Country Collard Greens to Midtown commuters.

The Brooklyn Museum is taking its celebration on the road! Find the Museum on Wheels at Fort Greene Park for The Lay Out’s seventh annual Juneteenth celebration. This lively park party centers Black joy at the intersection of expression, social impact, and cooperative economics. Enjoy music, performances, local vendors, and family-friendly art-making. Curated by visionary artist Carl Hancock Rux, the completely free event honors African and African-American folklore through powerful storytelling, weaving together stunning choral performances, live jazz music, and modern dance.

BRIC’s beloved outdoor summer concert series is dedicating its Juneteenth evening to a massive musical celebration. This year, the concert features the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra alongside the incredible Meshell Ndegeocello. The night will also double as Marshall Allen’s 102nd Birthday Celebration, bringing unparalleled energy and historic music to the heart of Brooklyn. The show is free with an RSVP, though a $10 donation is suggested to support the arts.

Bring serious vibes to Downtown Brooklyn with “We Outside: A Brooklyn Juneteenth Vol. IV.” Hosted by 651 ARTS in partnership with The Soapbox Presents, this high-energy outdoor block party centers heavily on Black joy, movement, and community coalition-building. Expect epic dance cyphers, spoken word poetry, their signature Stoop Sessions, and plenty of local food trucks.

Celebrate Juneteenth surrounded by nature with a free afternoon of community, culture, and family fun on Wave Hill’s Great Lawn. Guests can enjoy complimentary hand-rolled ice cream provided by Only Rare NYC (from 12-2 PM) and watch a deeply moving performance by the Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet. The event also includes a dance workshop led by Theara Ward and showcases from local Bronx Public School students.

If you want to stay local, there is no shortage of free, walkable events filling out the holiday weekend. The Bronx brings the party to Crotona Park, while Staten Island features its own localized community events filled with music and local vendors. Just across the river, Newark’s annual Juneteenth festival at Military Park draws massive regional crowds for a beautiful day of Black culture, creation, and community pride.

The East Midtown Partnership is welcoming back the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus for a stunning 75-minute concert in honor of both Juneteenth and Pride Month. Titled Unspeakable Joy, the evening celebrates the beautiful intersectionality of being Black and queer. Black soloists from the chorus will take center stage to share what Juneteenth means to them through moving personal stories and powerful vocal performances, all beautifully backed by the rest of the renowned chorus.

Celebrate the legacy, evolution, and cultural impact of Black American dance with a special waterfront performance. Hosted by the Hudson River Park Trust, this event is presented by the Ladies of Hip Hop Dance Collaborative & Friends.

The evening highlights the cultural brilliance of Black women across the African Diaspora through street, club, and vernacular dance forms. Catch high-energy performances from the Ladies of Hip Hop Dance Collective, KaJe Movement Collective, ALITH, NEFER, and Diyanna Monet, followed by an interactive audience celebration.

Spend your holiday morning on the waterfront for a free, all-ages community celebration hosted by the Battery Park City Authority. The afternoon kicks off with a powerful demonstration of Western horsemanship and storytelling by The Federation of Black Cowboys.

After learning about the history of the holiday, children ages 3 and up can enjoy free pony rides right by the water. To close out the afternoon, the Harlem-based Go Hard Dancers will lead an interactive hip-hop and soul line dancing workshop for everyone.

Join the NYC Commission on Racial Equity (NYC CORE) for a historic, free celebration blending music, culture, and community dialogue. Held in association with SummerStage, the evening will feature legendary performances by hip-hop icon Ja Rule, Grammy Award-winning singer LeToya Luckett, and DJ Kid Capri.

More than just a concert, this gathering gives New Yorkers a unique opportunity to engage with the city’s racial equity initiatives. Attendees can provide feedback on the Preliminary Racial Equity Plan and learn about the city’s reparations mandates under Local Laws 91 and 92.
