“New York City welcomes the UN General Assembly once again this year, but New Yorkers and visitors alike should do their part in minimizing congestion and seeking non-driving modes of transportation,” NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said in a statement.

Gridlock days, a term coined in NYC, refers to car traffic coming to a standstill. Technically speaking, it’s when congestion blocks a city’s network of intersections.
To account for the UN General Assembly, the holiday season, and an influx of tourists, the NYC DOT is sharing dates to keep an eye on this year. During these specific Gridlock days, you might want to consider using the subway, commuter rail lines, ferries, or bikes.
