The beloved Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade has long been one of our favorite New York traditions, bringing thousands of costumed pups (and equally enthusiastic humans) together.
If you’ve ever seen a dachshund dressed as a hot dog, a corgi sporting butterfly wings, or a Great Dane strolling around in full superhero attire, you know exactly why New Yorkers count down the days until it returns each fall. And yes, we know, we know, summer is just beginning and we likely don’t want to think about autumn just yet! But thanks to the latest news in the dog-parade-world, we don’t have to!
This July, Madison Avenue will transform into a Parisian–inspired puppy promenade as Le Carnaval des Animaux, NYC’s first-ever Bastille Day Dog Parade, makes its debut. Expect berets, Breton stripes, tiny Eiffel Towers, chic French-inspired costumes, and plenty of tail wags as dogs of every size strut through the streets in celebration of Bastille Day!
The Bastille Day Celebration: What is Le Carnaval des Animaux?
Brought to you by the creative masterminds behind the iconic Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade (@nydogparade), Le Carnaval des Animaux (or “The Bastille Day Dog Parade”) is New York City’s newest premier pet celebration.
Hosted in official partnership with L’Alliance New York and presented by VEG ER for Pets and Bond Vet, the vibrant event marks a brand-new summer tradition for the city’s canine community.
The parade is designed to capture the exact same spirit of creativity, community connection, and pure joy that makes the autumn parade a viral sensation, but with a distinctly chic, French twist. Ooo la-la!
While the New York Dog Parade organization is famous for fostering community through our four-legged friends, this event expands the fun. Organizers have even hinted that creative minds should think outside the box—think French delicacies (a croissant pug, anyone?), classical French art, high fashion, or historic cinema. Best of all? Cats and other furry friends are welcome to join the fun, too!

How to Register Your Pet for the Costume Contest
Think your pup has what it takes to be crowned the most chic canine in New York? The costume competition kicks off officially at 1:30 PM, but competing pets and their owners must arrive by 1:00 PM to check in.
Registration is entirely free, but spots for contestants are limited to animals with fur or feathers. You can secure your pup’s slot in the parade and costume contest by visiting nydogparade.org to RSVP.
