Chocolate mousse may not be as iconic of a dessert choice as cake or ice cream or pie, but that doesn’t mean the creamy delight should be overlooked.
Light and airy whipped chocolate is just as delicious as all the rest, especially when it’s made by a master chocolatier. And we’re lucky enough to have high-quality Belgian chocolate mousse available right here in NYC!
The first mousse bar in the country has opened in East Harlem. Called MOJO Artisanal Mousse Bar, the sweet shoppe comes from Belgian Chef Johan Halsberghe. He created the brand MOJO Desserts three years ago (MOJO is short for “mousse by Johan”), and has been selling mousse cups in specialty markets and stores. He just started his own factory also in East Harlem last year, but says he missed seeing people taste and interact with his confectionary creations.
The mousse bar will feature Johan’s classic flavors like Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate and Hazelnut Praline, as well as specialty options like Matcha and Passion Fruit & Ruby Chocolate. And if you can’t decide on only one? You can actually get a mousse flight with a little taste of everything! With any order, you can enjoy it either to stay or to go.
Eventually, they will also offer special chocolate bars that match the mousse flavors.
And if all that chocolate makes you thirsty, have no fear, there will be a selection of premium coffees and beverages, including a speculoos latte and hot chocolate. And if for some reason mousse isn’t your thing (but, how?!), there are fresh pastries like croissants, pain au chocolat, and the Brazilian cheesy bread Pao De Queijo.
“I want people to come here to have a taste of what it was growing up in Belgium: the traditional Belgian pancakes served with kinekesucker, Belgian chocolate bars and cookies and our own chocolate bars with my favorite combinations,” Johan said. Sounds like a delicious mission to us!
