It’s now more expensive to ride the NYC Ferry as their recently announced fare hike has officially gone into effect today, Monday, September 9th, raising single-trip tickets to $4.50 from $4. Beyond single-trip tickets, a 10-trip ticket bundle has increased from $27.50 to $29.00, making each ticket $2.90–the same price as subway and bus fares (though it won’t be long until another subway fare hike is expected to take place).
Not everyone will have to shell out $4.50, however–the NYC Ferry offers a discount program in which seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income travelers can purchase ferry tickets for only $1.45. High school students citywide will also have access to reduced fares during weekday travel to and from school (find the NYC DOE School Calendar for 2024-2025 here).
On the bright side, New Yorkers can expect service and vessel upgrades following the fare increase. Other enhanced services include free WiFi on all vessels, expanded language support, and automated audio-visual announcements for upcoming stops.
In addition to the fare hike, the ferry’s fall schedule is also now in effect. The schedule is as follows:
- The South Brooklyn route has resumed service to Governors Island on weekdays and weekends. Riders from other routes can transfer to the South Brooklyn route at Pier 11
- Some departure times on the Rockaway, Astoria, and South Brooklyn routes have changed to reflect Fall ridership levels
- Weekend South Brooklyn service includes direct early morning service between Red Hook and Pier 11 from 7:30 am – 9 am to support demand when cruise ships are in port
- A modified holiday schedule for Sukkot will operate with additional service from 10/20/2024 through 10/23/2024
The NYC Ferry fare hike is officially in effect as of Monday, September 9th.
