The life of NYC is back like never before!
With everything reopening, tons of events, and the streets full of people once again, it’s definitely going to be a summer to remember here in New York. And Mayor de Blasio wants all of the city to celebrate with one epic week in NYC — including a “mega concert” in Central Park.
In one of his daily press conferences, the Mayor announced “Homecoming Week,” a “city-wide celebration of New York City” to take place this August.
The main event of the week will be the massive concert in Central Park, on the famous Great Lawn. It’s set for August 21, will allow for 60,000 attendees and will last about three hours.

De Blasio said “Homecoming Week” was actually the brainchild of Danny Meyer, the renowned NYC restauranteur who has also been serving as a co-chair on the The Coalition for NYC Hospitality & Tourism Recovery, which is aimed at helping NYC recover from the pandemic.
“It will be a city-wide moment to declare that New York City is back,” he said. “A homecoming…where New Yorkers come out together to celebrate and support our city…where folks from all over the metropolitan region come back to their roots in the city to support New York City’s comeback. This is going to be an amazing, memorable, once-in-a-lifetime week in New York City.”
The Great Lawn has seen gigantic concerts before, like Carole King singing to 70,000 people there in 1973, Simon & Garfunkel reuniting for 400,000 people in 1981, as well as the Global Citizen concerts in more recent years.
Other events for Homecoming Week include four additional concerts produced by the Universal Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Queens; free movie screenings by Rooftop Films; cultural activities and public art; and iconic events including NYC Restaurant Week and Summer Streets!
