Is that fall foliage we see up ahead? 🍂🚂
If your camera roll is ready for fiery red leaves, golden tree canopies, and dreamy Hudson River views, Metro-North is making it even easier to trade the NYC skyline for a cozy autumn escape.
After carrying approximately 171,000 riders last Saturday alone, the railroad is adding even more seasonal Leaf Peeper trains to help New Yorkers chase fall colors up the Hudson Valley — no car required!

Metro-North Is Adding More Fall Foliage Trains
Beginning Saturday, October 17, the railroad added six extra round trips each weekend between Grand Central Terminal and Beacon, with the expanded service running Saturdays and Sundays through November 8. That’s 12 additional one-way train trips, giving leaf peepers more opportunities to explore the Upper Hudson Valley during peak foliage season.
The additional trains stop at Harlem-125th Street, Croton-Harmon, Peekskill, Garrison, and Cold Spring, making it easier to plan a spontaneous weekend adventure filled with colorful leaves, charming Main Streets, and scenic river views.
And the best part? You can leave the driving, traffic, and parking headaches behind. Just grab a window seat, bring a cozy sweater, and let the changing landscape do its thing.
Where To Go Leaf Peeping Along The Hudson Line
Not sure where to spend your autumn day trip? These walkable Hudson Valley destinations offer plenty of reasons to hop off the train and stay awhile.
1. Cold Spring

If your ideal fall day involves browsing antique shops, sipping a warm coffee, and wandering down a postcard-worthy Main Street, Cold Spring is calling your name.
The charming village is just a short stroll from the train station, with independent boutiques, cozy cafés, and beautiful Hudson Highlands scenery all within reach. Feeling adventurous? Nearby hiking trails offer an excuse to stretch your legs and take in those spectacular fall colors from above.
2. Beacon

For a fall day trip with a little culture mixed in, head to Beacon. This artsy Hudson Valley favorite pairs independent shops and excellent eateries with scenic waterfront views and a lively downtown.
Art lovers can visit Dia Beacon, the renowned contemporary art museum housed in a former Nabisco printing factory. Afterward, wander down Main Street, pop into local boutiques, or find a riverside spot to soak up the season.
3. Peekskill

Looking for somewhere a little different? Peekskill brings together historic architecture, a growing food and arts scene, and beautiful views of the Hudson River.
Spend the afternoon exploring downtown, stopping for a bite at a local restaurant, or enjoying the waterfront scenery. It’s a lovely option for anyone who wants a relaxed autumn outing without having to plan an entire weekend away.
Important Schedule Changes To Know Before You Go
There’s one small detail to keep in mind if your plans involve Connecticut-bound trains.
Metro-North announced that planned New Haven Line schedule adjustments related to the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Walk Bridge construction project were moved from Saturday, October 17, to Sunday, October 18, because of forecast high winds.
That meant a normal Saturday schedule operated on October 17, while a reduced construction schedule was planned for Sunday, October 18.
Before heading out, check the MTA TrainTime app or Metro-North schedules for the latest departure times and service updates.
Now all that’s left to do is pick a town, charge your phone, and get ready for a little fall magic. 🍁
