Baseball season will soon be in full swing, and there’s no cooler way to get to NYC stadiums than a nostalgia train ride.
In honor of the Yankees’ and Mets’ home openers, the New York Transit Museum will deploy its fleet of vintage cars to shuttle fans where they need to go. No disrespect to the B and 7 Trains, but these throwbacks are pretty sweet.
Nostalgia train rides to the Yankees’ and Mets’ home openers
The Bronx Bombers get underway at home on March 27th. To mark the occasion, a 1917 IRT Lo-V train will depart from Grand Central-42 St.’s uptown 4 train platform, and run non-stop to 161 St-Yankee Stadium. And right behind it will be the IRT SMEE cars from the Train of Many Colors for those who miss the initial ride.
And now, for Juan Soto and the Amazin’ Mets, the Queens team will kickstart the fun at home on April 4th. Classic redbirds will take flight across the Queens-bound 7 line, leaving from 34 St-Hudson Yards at 12pm.
For both of these fun experiences, note that you’ll only need a MetroCard swipe or OMNY tap to access this blast from the past. Neither train has a return ride, so once the 9th inning wraps up for both games, you will have to resort to present-day transportation methods.
Now that the baseball season is quickly approaching, be sure to have a look at the Yankees giveaways and Mets giveaways so you can leave the games with some cool swag. For more on the train rides, visit the New York Transit Museum website.
