New Yorkers looking forward to summer thrills and water slides at Niagara Amusement Park & Splash World will have to adjust their road trip plans.
The historic 65-year-old park, located in Grand Island, New York, has unexpectedly canceled its 2026 summer season.

Why is the park staying closed?
IB Parks & Entertainment, the operator behind the upstate New York destination, officially announced the closure. According to their statement, the park simply couldn’t keep up with financial realities.
They noted that recent attendance and revenue levels were not sufficient to sustain operating costs or the investments needed to rebuild and run the park responsibly.
Is the closure permanent?
While the park hasn’t explicitly confirmed a permanent shutdown, the signs are pointing in a tough direction.
When addressing the future of the 47-acre property, officials stated they are currently focused on managing the transition and “evaluating future opportunities for the property.”
There are currently no finalized ownership changes, and the company has not mentioned any plans to reopen in 2027.
However, there is a small glimmer of hope for locals. Grand Island Town Supervisor Peter Marston recently stated that he has heard “unofficially” that other groups are looking at the property, adding that he is hopeful the space eventually “comes back to life.”
A rocky recent history
This isn’t the first time the community has faced losing the beloved park.
Originally opened in 1961 as Fantasy Island, the destination was unceremoniously closed by Apex Parks Group after the 2019 season. IB Parks swooped in to save it, signing a lease in 2021 and fully reopening it under the new Niagara Amusement Park moniker in 2022.
One final summer event
IB Parks confirmed that they still plan to open the property for at least one day to host their traditional July 4th fireworks event. Additional details regarding the holiday celebration will be announced later this year on the park’s official website and social media channels.
