The black-and-white cookie is an iconic New York treat that began over a century ago. Also known as a half-moon or half-and-half cookie, it is a shortbread cookie base with icing on top split between chocolate and vanilla fondant.
Now, the perfectly untouched cookie has been reimagined into doughnut form, and we don’t understand how it hasn’t been done already!
The delicious fluffly, cake doughnut at Doughnut Plant takes the same half-and-half concept of chocolate and vanilla glaze, but bumps it up a notch. Underneath the sweet layer of glaze, the doughnut batter itself is split to be black and white! Unlike the cookie version, which is the vanilla-looking shortbread all the way through.
The dough inside the cake doughnut (that is somehow so perfectly split) is half vanilla and half dark chocolate. As the Doughnut Plant put it in one Instagram caption: “It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white ⚫️⚪️ In fact it’s better if you’re both.”
