After the movie remake of the ’80s musical ‘Cats’ bombed at the box office—and left viewers and critics at the least, perplexed and at the worst, disturbed—most people probably wouldn’t want to watch it even a second time.
But three New Yorkers are going to watch it almost 12 times in a row…for 24 hours straight…if they can raise enough money for the NYC nonprofit Housing Works, that is!
Steve Kendall, Emily Lind and Kris Imperati, three New York friends, decided to set a wacky fundraising goal to raise money for a local charity. Housing Works is based in New York and its mission is to “end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts.”
If the trio of friends raise $15,000 to donate, they will LIVE stream their day-long viewing party, or as they call it, their “descent into madness.” Here are the challenge rules, as written on their Go Fund Me page:
1) They will watch CATS on a loop for 24 hours.
2) They are only allowed to take breaks during the credits
3) They can have friends come by to join them at any time, as long as they are watching CATS.
4) Talking over the movie is allowed.
5) Every cent raised will go to Housing Works.
6) They will live stream themselves watching CATS.
So far, they have raised $1,765 raised of $15,000 goal. They will only do it if they raise the full amount of money, so check out how you can donate here! That live stream will definitely make for a good laugh.
