No swans were harmed on this rescue mission!
Yesterday afternoon, the FDNY shared a story on their social media channels about how they had to head into the East River to rescue two people after their inflatable pool float was “overcome by a fast moving current and was met with heavy marine traffic.”
And yes, that pool float was one of those trendy swan floaties perhaps made most famous by Taylor Swift on Instagram back in 2015.
The summertime floaters were brought to shore by the FDNY’s medical response boat Marine 6, where they were also evaluated by Emergency Medical Services and appeared to be unharmed.
Along with a rather humorous photo of a FDNY boat hauling the giant white floatie, they reminded New Yorkers to take precautions when entering the water surround the city, and to only do so where is it permitted and where lifeguards are on duty.
