As a frosty, flakey, and slushy winter approaches, it’s hard not to have our head in the clouds with dreams of sunshine and palm trees…so maybe that would explain why, according to this new study, New Yorkers want to move to Florida the most.
The study was conducted by real estate marketing company Hypewired, who analyzed Google search terms such as “move to,” “relocate to,” and “homes in” followed by the name of each state to find which U.S. states people most want to relocate to.
According to the data, a New Yorker’s top three most aspired states to move to are:
- Florida
- New Jersey
- North Carolina
Surprisingly, average house price doesn’t necessarily play into the desire to move to certain locations.
For example, while the average house prices are 12.8% and 28.6% lower in Florida and North Carolina, respectively, than in New York ($392,262 in Florida and $321,207 in North Carolina compared to $449,826 in New York), the average New Jersey house price is $492,394, which is $42,568 more expensive than in New York.
Rather, the desire to move is likely more dependent on other factors.
A spokesperson for Hypewired stated:
The research shows that the sunshine state Florida is the most popular state for relocation searches, coming out as number one for all 23 states’ searches combined. This could be due to its warm climate, affordable living expenses, range of attractions and activities, no income tax and top-rated beaches.
As for us, though the Sunshine State’s weather is almost enough to convince us to pack our bags and move to Florida, we would never leave New York City behind. Besides, there’s a reason it was ranked the third best city in the world!
Rather, we’d have to say we’re with New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware dwellers, who, according to the study, most want to relocate to New York.
