The New York Public Library is hosting another lovely after hours party for Valentine’s Day, and this year it’s all about the love for books and reading.
Whether you’re a die-hard book worm or are just looking for an alternative plan for happy hour drinks this month, the programming at the New York Public Library is an interesting option.
Tomorrow night (Friday, February 14), the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building will be hosting their Library After Hours program to celebrate the library’s 125th anniversary with a #LoveReading theme. The evening will include “dramatic readings of love poems” along with a one-night-only display of their special “Picturing Your Love” interactive collection.
In addition to happy hour drinks and food available for purchase, the celebration will highlight:
- Love poems read aloud by Ellen Burstyn (Requiem For a Dream), Paloma Celis Carbajal (NYPL Curator, Latin American, Iberian and Latino Studies), Raúl Esparza(Law & Order, BoJack Horseman), Jessica Hagedorn (Dogeaters, The Gangster of Love), Sonia Manzano (Sesame Street, The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano), David Tomas Martinez (Post Traumatic Hood Disorder, Hustle), and Yanyi (The Year of Blue Water) in the Rose Main Reading Room
- “Picturing Your Love” interactive collections display with items from the Picture Collection
- Librarian-led book matchmaking
- Literary trivia
- Craft unique bookmarks using the Library’s collections
- Games & puzzles
- DJ Rimarkable
