If you’re cozying up for a Christmas movie marathon before the big day, you’re not alone! This year there’s one Christmas movie that seems to be on every New Yorker’s watch list, and that’s Four Christmases. According to a new study from Looper, the 2008 film featuring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon is the most popular Christmas movie in New York State.
The plot of Four Christmases follows couple Brad (Vaughn) and Kate (Witherspoon) looking to escape the family drama of their divorced parents and instead go on vacation during Christmas. But when things don’t go as planned, the two end up having to visit their families for the holidays.
Fun fact: Peter Billingsley, known for his role as Ralphie Parker in the holiday classic, A Christmas Story, was actually one of the executive producers for Four Christmases.
And New Yorkers aren’t the only ones entertained by family chaos, as California (where the movie takes place), Colorado, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin also favored Four Christmases during this time of year. Whereas, neighboring states like New Jersey and Connecticut preferred movies like The Grinch Stole Christmas and Christmas with the Kranks.
Looper used data from IMDb and Google Trends from the past year to determine the results and discover the top Christmas movies in all the U.S states. You can see the rest of the results from the study here.
