Is your best friend really a unique little snowflake? Were you unwittingly swayed by the cultural zeitgeist when naming your doggo? Here are the top ten names for male and female puppers in NYC.
We New Yorkers love our pooches. Over the years, we’ve named our furry friends after our favorite TV and Movie Characters, celebrities and trends. Thanks to data from the pet sitting service, Rover, we now know the most popular dog names in the city.
The web-based pet sitters used it’s database of dogs in the city to determine the year’s top names for both girl and boy puppers.
How do we differ from the rest of the country? Are we really that different? Not really, eight of the top female dog names and seven of the top ten male names are the same as the rest of the US.
That’s not to say we are just like every other city. New Yorkers are 33% more likely to name their puppy pal after alcohol. Knicks fans have helped push the name “Caramelo” up 172% in honor of the former Knicks basketball superstar. Sex in the City fans are just relentless with their adulation of the show, the name “Carrie” (probably more to do with Carrie Fisher, Rover.com) jumped 235%, Samantha up 80% and Charlotte up 24%.
