When it comes to the biggest smokers on the globe it’d be reasonable to think those people are living in Colorado, or California, or Amsterdam. However, a new study reports that the it’s actually NYC that’s puffing away the most!
We know, it seems hard to believe, but at 77.44 metric tons per year, New York City has the highest consumption rate of cannabis in comparison to the rest of the world.
Seedo, a company that creates automatic growing devices for herbs (cough cough, marijuana) and advocates of marijuana legalization, recently conducted a study to determine what cities consume the most marijuana.
The study was broken down into several parts that looked at: the most and least expensive cities in terms of price per gram, most potential tax if taxed like cigarettes, most potential tax if taxed like average US rate, and most and least consumption of cannabis.
So who came in second to NYC on the list? Karachi, Pakistan, with nearly half of NYC’s number, at 41.95 metric tons per year.
The study also showed that, if legalized, NYC could generate the highest potential tax revenue.
