June has landed in New York City, bringing with it a slew of new restaurant and bar openings ready to take over your calendar. With summer practically in full swing and the city stretching into those long, warm evenings, it’s the perfect moment to swap routine spots for something new.
From quietly opened neighborhood gems to buzzy arrivals already building a waitlist, these are the places shaping the month ahead–before they become impossible to get into.
Sono – Now Open

Sono is a new Korean-Italian trattoria from Chef Sechul Yang, whose résumé includes acclaimed NYC kitchens like Gramercy Tavern, Oiji Mi, Maialino, and Ddobar.
The restaurant explores the surprising overlap between Korean and Italian culinary traditions, blending techniques and ingredients from both cultures into a menu that feels inventive without losing sight of either cuisine’s roots.
Dishes range from bottarga pasta with Korean zucchini and pollock roe to handmade noodles, Korean-inspired small plates, and house-infused soju. The concept has already earned recognition, with Yang recently receiving Chef Edward Lee’s Pitch Day Grant, which honors some of the country’s most promising Korean culinary talent.

For a totally different kind of waterfront hang, a restored 1960s FDNY fireboat has reopened as Fireboat—a tropical-themed floating bar docked at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 6.
The bar is serving draft drinks from repurposed fire hoses, Caribbean-inspired small plates like Cod Hushpuppies and BBQ Prawn Skewers, and panoramic views of New York Harbor and Lower Manhattan. Read more.
