The New Museum recently opened the doors to its highly anticipated 60,000-square-foot expansion. It is a complete game-changer for Manhattan’s only museum devoted exclusively to contemporary art.
Twice the space, double the art
This isn’t just a minor facelift. Designed by the Pritzker Prize-winning architecture firm OMA, alongside Executive Architect Cooper Robertson, the new wing seamlessly integrates with the museum’s iconic SANAA-designed flagship building.
The expansion also features a stunning new Atrium Stair, three new elevators for a much smoother visitor flow, and an enlarged Sky Room up on the seventh floor for your next special event.
What to see right now
The inaugural exhibition, New Humans: Memories of the Future, is currently taking over the entirety of the expanded space. The show brings together more than 200 artists, writers, scientists, architects, and filmmakers.
Together, they are exploring how dramatic societal and technological changes have shifted our understanding of what it means to be “human”.
You will also find incredible site-specific commissions scattered in and around the building. Keep an eye out for a monumental sculpture by Klára Hosnedlová on the new Atrium Stair and a striking facade piece created by Tschabalala Self.

🎟️ General admission is $25 for adults, $22 for seniors and people with disabilities, and $19 for students. It is completely free for visitors 18 and under, as well as for SNAP/EBT recipients.
