It seems that dine-in theaters are the way of the future, and the Upper East Side now has it’s own.
CMX CinéBistro is a five-story luxury theater offering in-seat service. The new 45,500 square-foot space will feature six theaters each with about 46 to 64 reclining seats, two full bars, and a full upscale menu.
However, considering it is a theater serving made-from-scratch food the items are a bit on the pricey side, but there are options that range from a $14 veggie burger to $39 Morocan Lamb Lollis, with plenty of variety in between. (If you want a traditional movie experience, you can get bottomless popcorn for $9.) To order from the full menu you’ll have to arrive to the theater 30 minutes prior to your movie, as no food or drink orders can be placed during.
CMX CinéBistro intends to reimagine the dine-in theater experience with a VIP-like experience. CMX Vice President of Operations, Fred Meyers, said: “We think about everything that people experience when they go to a traditional theater, and we try to make it the opposite: stress-free, an escape from crowds and the boisterousness of a typical multiplex.”
With that in mind, the theater focuses on an adult crowd with a policy that no person under the age of 21 is allowed in after 6 p.m. every night. An interesting feature, but one that older crowds will likely gravitate toward for a more intimate experience.
