Even with the biting cold this weekend, many are still expected to brave the weather in Times Square on Sunday evening to watch the ball drop at midnight!
Yesterday, 288 crystal triangles were installed onto the massive ball that sits 470-feet above the city, and when we’re all watching on New Year’s Eve, and the countdown finally begins, there will be a total of 2,600 crystals covering the ball.

Each year a theme is chosen for the big event, and this year it will be “Gift of Serenity.” The Waterford Crystals installed come in various sizes with a variety of patterns on each that, according to the company’s spokesperson Tom Brennan:
“When that ball drops, there is 32,000 Philips LED lights behind each crystal panel generating over 7.5 billion light combinations that will be and can be seen from space.”
