Nana’s Green Tea was originally founded in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo in 2001. Leading the matcha café industry in Japan, the company announced their upcoming expansion with their very first NYC location set to open on April 24th.
The NYC location will span 1,700 square feet at 1250 Broadway in NoMad as a “Modern Tea Ceremony House.” Matcha enthusiasts can expect green tea highlights including: Matcha Parfaits, Matcha Latte Frappes, and Matcha Top Grade Espressos. In addition to matcha, Nana’s Green Tea offers other flavors such as black sesame and hojicha.
Minimalist details, natural tones and original art pieces such as “Cha-tsuru,” “Tale of Genji,” and “Cha-bana” work together to reimagine traditional Japanese-style tea rooms in a modern context. The NYC location will extend accessibility to high-quality matcha outside of its heritage.
“Nana’s Green Tea is not just about serving tea; it’s about offering a bridge between the traditional Japanese tea culture and the modern lifestyle,” said Kyung Rim Choi, the leader of Group KFF Inc. “Our New York City location is a culmination of this vision, providing a space where everyone can discover and enjoy the rich heritage of matcha as part of their daily lives.”
It wasn’t until around 2018 that matcha really kicked off in the United States. According to LinkedIn, that year alone retail matcha powder sales skyrocketed 64.9%. But if you still haven’t dipped your toes in the matcha world, there’s no better time to try with the opening of Nana’s Green Tea!
