Just in time for Pride Month, award-winning British actor Rob Madge—known for roles in Mary Poppins, Macbeth, Oliver!, and the 25th anniversary tour of Les Misérables—is bringing their hit solo show My Son’s a Queer (But What Can You Do?) to the U.S. for its NYC debut at the historic New York City Center. In town for a limited run from June 12–15, the show is a joyful celebration of identity, humor, and heartfelt moments.
This joyful solo production is written and performed by Rob Madge, who brings their story to NYC after two successful runs in London’s West End. Inspired by their own childhood, the show blends humor, heart and a whole lot of magic—including old home VHS videos—to share their journey of growing up queer and non-binary with the loving support of family.
“My Son’s A Queer (But What Can You Do?)” is not quite a play or a musical, but a multimedia experience. Enjoy moving storytelling along with songs by Pippa Cleary (who wrote The Great British Bake-Off musical), and plenty of fabulous costumes. Secure your tickets now! It’s only in town for June 12 to the 15.
The show first premiered in 2021 at London’s Turbine Theatre, then played at the Edinburgh Fringe and West End. It even earned an Olivier Award nomination and won the 2022 WhatsOnStage Award for Best Off-West End Production. Don’t miss it when it comes to NYC this June at the historic New York City Center.
