And this year’s Moon Person goes to…the second-annual VMAs Block Party.
Considered an appetizer to the 2024 VMAs at UBS Arena, this free, all-ages event will take place on Sunday, September 8 from noon to 5pm at Domino Park in Williamsburg, a slight shift downtown from 2023’s inaugural event at the Oculus Plaza. What better way to ring in one of music’s most iconic events than an afternoon of celebration along the Brooklyn waterfront?
And celebrate fans will. MTV’s Dometi Pongo and CBS New York’s Alecia Reid will do the honors of hosting guests for performances, delicious eats, an all-day DJ, giveaways, and interactive games, to name a few enticing features.
Jordan Adetunji, Knox, and Lola Brooke will take the stage this year, and DJ CherishTheLuv’s selections will certainly be a nod to the 2024 VMA nominees. (Um, excuse us? Can we put in a request for “Espresso”? Please and thank you.)
If you happen to have a case of the munchies, MTV has you covered with a variety of snacks, including sips of the Burger King frozen pink lemonade, an array of Doritos flavors — all available at the Doritos Extended Play Tent with gaming and VMA ticket giveaways — and more.
In between bites, make sure to get your hands on complimentary MTV swag and take photos and get inked at the Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles activation. Plus, what would the event be without some art? Snap a selfie alongside the MTV Topiary Moon Person installation by none other than the anonymous Mr. Flower Fantastic himself. (Psst: it’s over 11-feet tall and over 600 pounds!)
Megan Thee Stallion will take the reins for music’s biggest night on Wednesday, September 11. Before you get comfy on the couch to cheer on your favorite musicians, why not treat yourself to the precursor event in Brooklyn? It’s a round of applause in our book.
