Madison Square Garden has taken luxury to a new level, alongside Benjamin Moore and Sasha Bikoff. The partnership was tasked with creating a lounge fit for the iconic stadium. “This was a VIP space inside The World’s Most Famous Arena, so the design needed to reflect that,” echoed Bikoff.
Native New Yorker and interior designer, Bikoff, set out to make an impression with her design for The Benjamin Moore Boardroom. Inspired the European interiors from the 60s and 70s, she selected luxurious details like plush carpeting and rounded banquettes, while maintaining New York character.
But what’s most striking about the new MSG lounge is the color—or lack there of colors, because everything is dripping in a glossy red. In fact, three specific reds from Benjamin Moore: Classic Burgundy, Raspberry Truffle, and Neon Red.
“We knew we wanted the paint to be the star,” Bikoff stated. Using a high-gloss paint, Bikoff was able to achieve just that. The lustrous paint combination elicits a sultry, sleek look of what it’d be like to live inside a ruby—perfect for the “hidden jewel box” tucked away within the world-renowned arena.
Why red though? “Red is the color of celebration, and it’s deeply tied to both Benjamin Moore and the New York Rangers,” Bikoff answered.
In addition to the color palette, Visual Comfort & Co. lighting ensured the room came alive with an emanating glow that flowed in synergy with the space’s materials and surfaces.
Overtime, Bikoff’s name has been associated with sensational maximalism, gaining attention from her kaleidoscope staircase for the 2018 Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse. Throughout her projects, Bikoff heavily relies on her travels to global destinations like Paris and Marrakech to spark her creativity. You can explore more of her interiors on her website.
“I wanted this room to be festive, glamorous, and iconic,” says Bikoff. And one glance at the images, or if you’re fortunate enough to get an actual peek inside, you can’t argue against the fact it is all of that and more.
