As the holiday lights take over NYC and Christmas trees begin to light up the night with their twinkling lights, you can’t help but feel the magic of the holiday season, and though we’d argue that New York City is the most magical place to be during the holiday season, there are many festive gems located outside of the confines of the city.
Middleburg, Virginia, for example, is located 5.5 hours from NYC, and, as it turns out, it was just named the most magical Christmas town in America!
Country Living released their list of the thirty most magical Christmas towns in the U.S., and when it comes to Middleburg the holiday cheer is pretty much off the charts.
The ranking states:
Settle in for an old-fashioned Christmas in the heart of Virginia’s horse and hunt country, where you can cheer on a parade of loyal hounds as they ride through the streets, sip on small-batch hard ciders at Mt. Defiance, and shop for old-world holiday decor, including Wilhelm Schweizer pewter ornaments, and Wendt & Kühn windup music boxes, at year-round holiday shop The Christmas Sleigh.
Beyond Middleburg, other towns not too far from NYC that made the list include Woodstock, NY (#3), one of the most beautiful small towns near NYC, Stockbridge, MA (#3), and Essex, CT (#7), among others.
Plus, this other magical Christmas town, literally known as Christmas City U.S.A., is less than two hours from NYC!
With that all being said, NYC made the list as well, albeit in the eleventh spot. And while we truly believe it should have ranked higher, at least we know there are tons of magical Christmas towns near NYC that give us the chance to experience someplace new!
