Living in NYC is not for the faint of heart, and it’s definitely not easy on our wallets–did you know NYC topped a ranking as the most expensive city in the world? And the fact of the matter is, even those who come to the city on a quick vaca have to keep an eye on their wallets as well.
A study done by the travel information site Scott and Yanling revealed which cities are America’s most expensive weekend getaway destinations, and NYC found its way near the top.
The bad news: the average weekend getaway to NYC costs around $1,291. The good news: it’s not the most expensive of the cities. In fact, that tile goes to our friends over in Boston, Massachusetts, where the average weekend getaway costs around $1,401.
We guess high expenses aren’t unique to the Big Apple after all!
The study looked at the 50 most-populated cities in the U.S. Factors studied to determine the most expensive weekend getaway included hotels, public transport, taxi rides, theater tickets, cinema tickets, alcoholic beverages, and lunchtime and dinnertime menus.
Following closely behind NYC with only a $60 difference, are our friends over in San Diego, where the average weekend getaway costs around $1,231.
According to Scott Sidders from Scott and Yanling, there are some tips when it comes to cutting down on weekend getaway costs, including:
- Planning in advance
- Embracing flexibility
To secure the best possible deals and avoid surging prices during peak periods, meticulous planning in advance is key. Embracing flexibility by choosing different weekdays can also work in your favor, which unlocks more affordable accommodation and entertainment options, ultimately providing an enriching experience without breaking the bank.
