Though Long Island City’s MoMA PS1 has long been a staple of the NYC art scene, it recently grabbed headlines as the largest free museum in the city. Now, the Queens icon is doubling down on its community roots with a massive, all-day block party to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
On Saturday, April 18, the museum will transform its famous courtyard, public plaza, and indoor galleries into a high-energy borough-wide bash. From legendary street food to graffiti legends, here’s why this is the one event you can’t miss this spring.
Food, Music, & The Queens Night Market
The celebration is packed with a “who’s who” of local culture, curated by PS1 Director Connie Butler to feel like a true love letter to the neighborhood.
Here is a look at what’s happening at the plaza:
- The Food: Grab a bite from the legendary Queens Night Market vendors or shop curated finds from FAD Market
- The Music: Catch high-energy sets from Discolocas NYC Fiesta Club and the Queensboro Dance Festival
- The Art: Get hands-on with a quilting circle, self-defense sessions, and a mural workshop led by world-renowned graffiti artist Lady Pink
- The Community: Check out special activations by the Lower Eastside Girls Club and Nuevayorkinos
The Return of Greater New York
The block party also serves as the grand opening weekend for Greater New York.
This signature PS1 exhibition spans two full floors and spotlights over 50 multidisciplinary artists currently shaping the creative landscape of NYC. It’s a rare opportunity to see the cutting edge of contemporary art without spending a dime on admission.
Know Before You Go: RSVP & Logistics
