If you are looking for a unique way to experience art outdoors, you need to head over to Queens. MoMA PS1 has officially inaugurated its new Courtyard Commission series with a breathtaking, immersive green space.
Created by artist and poet Precious Okoyomon, the installation is titled Among the Flowers I Learned to Love: A Garden of Decreation. It is on view from July 31, 2026 through 2028.
A wild, ever-evolving landscape
This living forest is Okoyomon’s largest outdoor installation to date. It is also the first of its kind in New York City. The wild garden is designed to adapt and evolve with the changing seasons.
As you wander through the courtyard, you will find plant species often viewed as oppositional peacefully co-existing together. The sprawling landscape features grasses, flowers, weeds, sedges, pollinators, and vines. It actively brings together cultivated and wild growth, as well as native and invasive plants. The entire environment is also accompanied by a beautiful sound piece composed by Oliver Leith.
Step inside a 25-foot teddy bear
The absolute standout feature of the garden is a 25-foot-long teddy bear sculpture sitting right at the center. Titled The Pleasure Principle, the massive sculpture invites visitors to physically interact with the art.
Here is what you can expect when exploring the giant bear:
- Visitors can climb up a set of stairs to enter through the bear’s rear.
- Inside the space, you will experience audio of Okoyomon reading their poetry.
- Visitors then exit the sculpture through a slide that leads out of the bear’s mouth.
This incredible installation offers a welcoming space for exploration and rest. It is fully accessible as part of MoMA PS1’s new free admission for all program, inviting audiences to experience the museum in new ways year-round.
