‘Tis the season for long afternoons spent at a winery!
As the weather warms up in NYC, so does everyone’s sense of adventure—or maybe more accurately, that familiar longing for a slow, sun-soaked escape somewhere just outside the city. And tucked away in the Hudson Valley, there’s a place that delivers exactly that feeling, without the flight to Italy.
Often called the “flagship winery” of the region, Millbrook Vineyards & Winery is already a longtime favorite for weekenders chasing rolling hills, crisp pours, and sweeping vineyard views. But this spring, it’s stepping firmly into its moment with a new seasonal Vinyl Listening Lounge.
Think less “quick tasting stop,” more full sensory experience: record spins in the background, glass in hand, and a panoramic terrace that looks out over what feels a little too picturesque to be real.

🍷 What To Know: The Experience
Millbrook is designed for the “unhurried” traveler. Unlike many high-traffic tasting rooms, the atmosphere here is expansive and inclusive.
- The Vinyl Listening Lounge: Located in the Loft, this is the spring season’s crown jewel. Expect curated sets from local favorites like DJ Ethical Drift, spinning every Sunday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It turns a standard tasting into a rhythmic, communal hangout.
- Sip and Snack: While the winery is famous for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the food scene is equally enticing. Weekends feature artisanal cheese and charcuterie plates in the Taproom. Starting in May, the energy ramps up with food trucks (like the fan-favorite Cousins Maine Lobster) rolling onto the property every Saturday and Sunday.
🌳 The History: A Hudson Valley Pioneer
Millbrook wasn’t always a lush vineyard. The estate sits on what was once a 130-acre dairy farm. In 1982, the land was transformed when the owners realized that the gravelly soil and sloping hills mirrored the terroir of world-famous wine regions.
They were the first in the Hudson River Valley to dedicate themselves exclusively to Vinifera grapes (the classic European varieties). Today, those 30+ acres of vines have matured into a landscape that genuinely earns its “Tuscan” nickname, blending old-world viticulture with a quintessential New York backdrop.

🚊 How To Get There From NYC
Escaping the concrete jungle for the rolling hills of Millbrook is a straightforward trek, but it requires a little bit of planning once you leave the tracks.
- By Car: It’s a scenic 90-minute drive from Manhattan via the Taconic State Parkway. The drive itself is part of the therapy, transitioning from city skylines to the lush greenery of Dutchess County.
- By Train: Take the Metro-North Hudson Line from Grand Central Terminal to the Poughkeepsie station. The ride is roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes.
- The “Last Mile”: Once at the station, you’re about 25 minutes from the winery. Pro Tip: Ubers and Lyfts are notoriously difficult to find in the rural Hudson Valley. It is highly recommended to pre-arrange a ride. The winery suggests local pros like Watson’s Livery Service (845-464-8178) or Morning Star Car Service (845-493-0211) to ensure you aren’t stranded after that second glass of Rosé.
