As the holiday season approaches, the Metropolitan Opera is bringing back a beloved New York tradition.
Mozart’s The Magic Flute returns to the stage from December 11, 2026, through January 2, 2027.
Directed by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor—the visionary behind Broadway’s The Lion King—this production transforms the classic masterpiece into a magical winter adventure.
The show is performed in English and runs just under 90 minutes. It is packed with vibrant sets, colorful costumes, and whimsical puppetry.
It is the perfect introduction to opera for audiences of all ages.
The Magic Flute is an enchanting fairytale. It follows a brave prince and a quirky bird-catcher on a quest to rescue a princess.
Taymor’s signature puppetry brings mythical creatures to life right before your eyes. The visual storytelling keeps younger viewers captivated from start to finish.
